Is Rekord an auditor?
Is Rekord an auditor?
No. Rekord is not an auditor, and nothing Rekord produces is an audit opinion.
An audit is performed by a licensed accounting firm under formal professional standards. The auditor tests a company's books and controls over a period and signs an opinion on whether the financial statements are fairly presented. That opinion carries professional liability and a specific legal meaning.
Rekord does something different. It checks data about assets against primary sources, such as bank feeds, custodian records, servicer systems, and public lien registries, and records the results so they can be checked by others. Each result is fingerprinted and anchored so it can't be quietly changed later (see Hash-then-anchor).
The two are complementary. An audit gives formal assurance on a year's financial statements, months after the year ends. Verification gives frequent, reproducible evidence of whether data still matches its sources between audits. Neither replaces the other. See Audit vs attestation vs verification for the full comparison.
If you see a Rekord verification result described anywhere as an "audit" or an "audited" figure, that description is wrong.
