URD (Universal Rewards Distributor)
URD (Universal Rewards Distributor)
The Universal Rewards Distributor is a Morpho contract that handles the distribution of rewards, such as incentive tokens or additional yield, to users across markets and vaults. Rather than each market or reward program building its own bespoke payout mechanism, the URD provides a single, standardized way to distribute rewards efficiently, typically using a Merkle-based claim system so that large numbers of recipients can be paid without a separate on-chain transaction per person.
The practical benefit is efficiency and verifiability. A reward program computes who is owed what, publishes a Merkle root on-chain, and each user claims their allocation by submitting a proof. This keeps distribution cheap even at scale and makes every allocation independently verifiable against the published root, rather than requiring users to trust that the distributor paid correctly.
In an institutional lending context, the URD is the plumbing that lets a platform layer incentive programs or supplementary rewards on top of base lending yield in a clean, auditable way, without complicating the underlying market contracts themselves.
